What's up with SUP?
Updated: Sep 9, 2020
Stand Up Paddle Boarding known as SUP, is a wildly growing water sport that is still a baby compared to other water sports like surfing and kayaking. It's been getting more popular since around since the early 2000's and still increasing popularity every day. SUP is commonly found in vacation locations, warmer climates offering year round fun on the water. You can tour open ocean & lakes, site see, surf, race, enjoy SUP yoga and fitness and even catch a ride on white water rivers all on a stand up paddle board.
I came to the sport just by chance of something fun to do, be active outside and be under the sun. As a competitive swimmer in high school with a love for the water and sunshine it was only natural that the first time I stepped foot on a SUP that I was hooked! The fact that I've been a yoga teacher for nearly a decade, it was a natural progression that I would take my practice on the water. We didn't really have much available near by my home in Eastern Washington as far as lessons, rentals, let alone yoga on the board so I searched for it! I researched and found Paddle Into Fitness, owned and lead by competitive athlete Gillian Gibree, where I learned proper technique for improving my SUP technique, proficiency, as well as modifications and variations on how to build my personal yoga practice on the water. I flew to San Diego, became a WPA Level 1 instructor and from there, I decided to create the element of water to my "studio-less yoga studio"! I have spent the past few summers developing the availability of Stand Up Paddle boarding to Eastern Washington by offering Stand Up Paddle boarding lessons, half day guided tours, special events including sunset SUP & SIP's, moonlight paddles, SUP fitness classes and coming in fall 2019, SUP& SUP Yoga Instructor training!

Living in the Yakima Valley is a blessing everyday! There is so much to do from hiking, lakes and rivers near by, rock climbing, trail running, camping, ski and snowshoeing in the winter it's nearly endless! You can always find something to do OUTSIDE! But if I'm completely honest, sometimes, I feel a little like a mermaid out of water. So, I've found a way to embrace the beautiful summer seasons we have by developing the availability of Stand Up Paddle boarding to Eastern Washington by offering SUP lessons, half day guided tours, special events including sunset SUP & SIP's, moonlight paddles, SUP fitness classes and coming in fall 2019, SUP& SUP Yoga Instructor training!
I have partnered with Rimrock Lake Resort for the last few summers as our base camp, where they have campsites and cabins right on the lake! They have become part of our mountain family and have some of the best food on Highway 12!
I look forward to seeing you on the water soon!
